So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
One of my favorite reminders when I’m facing a hard day (like today because James has a dentist appointment and those are pretty much the worst) is that I have a 100% success rate over hard days. I’ve survived them all. And I’ve had some no good, very bad days. But not one of them has taken me out yet.
Why? Because God continues to renew me. Maybe I didn’t get the rest I needed, but He renewed my strength. Maybe I wanted to give up, but He renewed my resolve. Or maybe I didn’t feel the patience for others I have on a good day, but He reminded me of His love for every person He created and He helped me see them as His children.
He renews us and He renews our kids. We can pray for continued strength for today and the hard days ahead, knowing in light of eternity, they are a “light, momentary affliction.”
God, even when we feel we are wasting away, help us to know You are renewing us each day.
