Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
There’s a lot I love about these verses. I love the idea that we’re surrounded by those who have gone before us and they are cheering us on. I love that we can set aside what holds us back and run in freedom. I love that Jesus has run this race with success and now sits at the right hand of God, interceding for us.
But here’s what’s standing out to me today—running the race that is set before us. I will run my race. You will run your race. I won’t compare my race to yours. I won’t wish I had your race instead of my own. I’ll stay in my lane and look to Jesus, not to the runners beside me. And God will give me endurance so I can accomplish what He has called me to do.
This can be a struggle for our kids as well, to wish they had a different race to run. But God is faithful! Ask Him to keep you and your children focused on the race ahead, staying in your own lane to victory!
Help us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
